Gerald G. Newman 84 of Bradenton Florida, a former Walton resident, passed away at home following a long illness.

Gerry was born on January 7, 1928 in Calicoon Center the son of the late George and Frances Stosser Newman. He was a graduate of Jeffersonville schools. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the US Army. He was employed for 39 years at Breakstone's, Walton as a truck driver.

Gerry was first married to the former Grace Payne. She died in 1973. He married the former Irene Wargo in 1980, who survives. Gerry was a member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, Sarasota; Walton American Legion and Vets Club, Club Royale Oasis; Moose Club, Oneonta; and honorary member of the Walton Fire Dept.

Gerry loved having people around. He enjoyed picnics, clambakes and Super Bowl Parties.

Gerry is survived by his loving family, his wife, Irene of Bradenton; his stepchildren, Michael (Fran) Breslin of North Carolina, Eileen and Tracy Armstrong of North Carolina, Kathleen (Jeffery) Bean of Buffalo, Christopher (Paula) Breslin of North Carolina, Pat and Bob Hunt of South Carolina, Dick and Betty Thomson of West Virginia, Donna Thomson, his brother, Fred Newman of Suiteland, MD; his sister, Marie McCabe of Callicoon Center, NY, his grandchildren and great grandchildren from both families, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his special cat “Abby.” He was predeceased by Bill Thomson in December 2011.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11AM at the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton with full military honors. A luncheon will follow at the Vet’s Club in Walton.
