Jeffrey P. Benson, 67, a lifetime resident of Walton passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in Oneida, New York.

Jeff was born on November 10, 1944 the son of the late Carl G. and Lillian (Amerman) Benson in Brooklyn, NY.

Jeff proudly served his country from in the Eleventh Armored Calvary Regiment from 1967 to 1969 in the United States Army during Vietnam. On November 11, 1967 he married the former Darlene Croop at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Walton. Jeff retired from Kraft in Walton as a Whey Plant Group Leader.

Jeff was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Guntown Post # 1554, and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and spending time with his family.

Jeff is survived by his loving family, his wife and best friend of 45 years, Darlene at home, daughter Tina Benson Mole’ (Charles) of Bovina Center, Rick Bliss, son Jeffrey Benson of Walton, his grandson, Brandon Mole’ of Bovina Center, his brothers, C. Robert Benson and Kathleen of Walton, Bruce Benson of Virginia, his sisters, Carla and William Merwin of Walton, Gail Barnhart of Walton, his brother in law, Robert and Carol Croop of Downsville, his best buddy, Mike Spaccaforno of Trout Creek, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Lilllian Benson, his brothers, Larry and Michael Benson, his brother in law, Robert Barnhart.

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 6PM to 8PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning, July 21, 2012 at 10AM at the St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 17 Benton Avenue, Walton, with the Rev. Edward J. Golding, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton, with full military honors.
