John G. Eppich
(February 12, 1942 - May 5, 2007)

U.S. Veteran John G. Eppich, 65 of Hamden, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 5, 2007 as a result of injuries suffered at an accident at his home.

John was born in Yugoslavia on February 12, 1942, the son of the late John and Leopoldine Hoegler Eppich. He emigrated to this country as a young child, first to Queens, NY and in 1976 to Hamden. On June 29, 1968 he married the former Bertha Matzelle in Queens. He proudly served his adopted country in the U.S. Army. For many years he was self employed at Delta Homes, Delhi. He later worked at Corning of Oneonta in the packing dept. John loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, carpentry, cutting wood, and taking care of his home. He also loved and was very proud of the accomplishments of his three children.

John is survived by his loving wife, Bertha, one daughter: Erica Eppich a physical therapist of Rochester, two sons, Walter Eppich MD of Emergency Pediatric Medicine at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL; John "Hansi" Eppich, a paint and body technician of Charlotte, North Carolina, one sister, Margaret (Frank) Handler of Queens, NY; two brothers: Walter (Rose) Eppich and Frank (Sophie) Eppich of both of Hamden, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Herbert Eppich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 10:00 AM at The Church Of The Holy Family, Maple Ave., Downsville, with the Rev. Michael Flannery, officiating. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
