Albert E. Gilbert, 67, a lifelong resident of Walton passed away early Tuesday morning, August 21, 2012 at Countryside Care Center, following a long illness. Al was born February 22, 1945 in Beerston, the son of the late Lewis and Mae (Mosher) Gilbert. He married the former Nancy Hull in Oneonta on February 14, 1969.
Al proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for 20 years. He was employed by S.J. Bailey's in Walton as a machine operator and later worked at Walton Central School.
In his spare time, Al and Nancy loved to go camping with their camping trailer; and to spend time with his family.
Al is survived by his loving family, his wife of 43 years, Nancy, his children Laura and David Gilbert Sprague of Walton and Aaron and Sally Gilbert of Coos Bay, Oregon; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Layla, Alex, Wyatt, Taylor, and Jordan; his brothers, Tom and Stacy Gilbert of Walton, and his sisters, Betty Brundege of Walton, Bambi and John Schlafer of Franklinton, North Carolina, and Grace and Bill Gilbertsen of Walton, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Al is also survived by his special friends, Gretchen Stanavitch, Agnes and Donnie Buchanan.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, from 6 to 8 PM. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in Albert's memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Walton Fire Department, 61 West Street, Walton NY 13856.
