Obituary

Albert C. Pomeroy, 87 of Walton, passed away Friday evening, April 7, 2006, at Delaware Valley Hospital, after a long illness.

Al was born in Walton on May 12, 1918, the son of the late Robert E. and Mabel Marsh Pomeroy. On October 7, 1962 he married the former Marion Schloss at Brewerton, NY. He

was a graduate of Walton Central School. He served his country as a machine gunner in the US Army from 1942 to 1945, receiving the purple heart for action in Germany in October 1944. He was employed by the Carrier Corp. of Syracuse as an inspector, retiring in 1983. Al was a member of the Walton Veteran's Club, and a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder. Al loved to grow vegetables and tend his lawn, watching the birds in his back yard, and spending time with his friends over coffee at TA's. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife: Marion Pomeroy, 2 daughters: Janet and David Darling Sr. of Knightdale, NC, Kim and Marc LaFond of Syracuse, 1 son: Robert L. and Edna Pomeroy of Sidney Center, 2 step daughters; Dorie and Stephen Ladd, of Groton, MA; and Tina and Peter Blackwood, of Canandaigua; 10 grandchildren and his step grandchildren, Penny McKnight, Peggy Gregory, Matthew and James Roman, Seth, Katrina, and Ethan Ladd, Christopher, Carrie, and Ian Blackwood; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, George "Walt" Pomeroy; 3 sisters, Mabel Storey, Eva Tweedie, and Martha Palmer.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday, April 10 from 6-8 p.m. at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St, Walton. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday April 11, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. in the United Presbyterian Church, 58 East St. Walton, with the Rev. Dr. James Martin and Rev. Kipton Stratton officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, with full military honors.
