Alexander Kopetz, 82, of Afton, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton. Alex was born June 21, 1932 in Hudson, PA. He is the son of the late Kuzma and Mary (Dzama) Kopetz. On November 24, 1973 he married the former Nadene Baker in Walton; a blessed union of over 40 years.
Alex proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. He had worked many different jobs throughout his life; but especially enjoyed his position at Harpursville Central School as the head of the Maintenance Department.
Alex was an all-around avid outdoorsman. He took great pleasure in camping, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed his garden and all the orchids it produced. He was well known for his great sense of humor. You knew he was your friend when he took the time to tease you. Santa Alex brought much joy at Christmas to the children of Harpursville Central School.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife; Nadene Kopetz, his daughters Debra, Doreen and Denise; his sisters; Anna Holick, Mary Kulick, and Lovey Kopetz, brothers; John (Evelyn) Kopetz, and Vladimir Kopetz. Alex also leaves behind his best friend; his beloved Shih Tzu, Cricket.
Alex is predeceased by his sister, Eva Sedlar.
Friends and family are invited to call from 6-8PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton on Monday, October 13, 2014. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11AM at the First Congregational Church, 4 Mead St., Walton, NY with Diane Meredith officiating .Burial with full military honors will follow in Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Ave, Walton.
