IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred A.
Drumm
September 22, 1934 – May 17, 2014
Alfred A. Drumm, 79, of Sidney Center passed away at home, Saturday, May 17, 2014, surrounded by his family.
Al was born on September 22, 1934 in Cannonsville, the son of the late Milton and Bertha (Mitchell) Drumm. He proudly served his country in the US Army. He married the former Myrna Constable on November 18, 1961 at Deposit. He was employed for many years as a supervisor at S. J. Bailey's in Walton where those lucky enough to work for him remember his fairness, concern for his employees and pride in a job well done. He also worked delivering auto parts for D & D of Walton, NAPA. He enjoyed all of the customers and would often stop to share a story or ask about a loved one. One of his most favored tasks was stopping at the Delaware National Bank in Delhi where all of the staff held a special place in his heart.
Al was a 55 year member of the Truman C. Toby American Legion Post 32, Walton; a retired member of the Town of Tompkins Planning Board, and the last trustee of the District 8 Bullock Hill School which he served with pride and mourned the loss of for many years. Al enjoyed hunting and fishing, growing vegetables in his garden, doing crossword puzzles in pen, reading, any task around the home, and especially sitting on the deck on a nice afternoon with Arnie. He never retired, only stopping work when illness would not allow him to continue. The greatest pleasure of his life was the time spent with his grandchildren, Aislynn, Kailynn and Andrew, all of whom shared a special bond with Pop. Maximus, his most cherished (furry) friend was with him to the end and after, guarding him as he passed.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife: Myrna, one daughter: Barbara & Andy Davis of Walton; and one son: Arnold & Betsy (Hitt) Drumm of Sidney Center; 3 grandchildren, Andrew IV, Aislynn, and Kailynn; two sisters: Helen & Leonard Rutherford of Walton and Muriel Stevens of Deposit; brother in law, Howard "Bun" Palmatier, of Greene; and sister in law Dorothy Drumm of Hale Eddy, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Drumm and sisters, Eva Palmatier, Doris Stevens, Pearl Madugno, Beatrice Ahearn and Bette Tuttle.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM, May 19, 2014 at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1 PM with the Rev. Jay O'Connor, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery, with full military honors.
Memorial contributions in Al's memory may be made to the Trout Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. & EMS, 8695 County HWY 27, Trout Creek, NY 13847.
