Obituary

Alfred H. Richert, 96, a resident of Shinhopple passed away on December 16, 2010 at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi.

Alfred was born near Berlin, Germany on May 21, 1914 the son of the late Frederick and Anna (Parodat) Richert before coming to the United States July 4, 1925 at the age of eleven.

He married Viola Agle in 1944 on furlough during World War II. He served with the Army Engineers building pontoon bridges in Europe.

Alfred graduated from Concordia Jr. College in Bronxville, New York, attended St Louis Seminary for two years and received his BA degree from Hartwick College as a four language major in 1940.

After the war, he taught German and Latin at East Aurora High and completed his Masters Degree in Guidance at the University of Buffalo. Then he became a Guidance Counselor at East Aurora and later at Walt Whitman High School at South Huntington, Long Island until his retirement in 1977.

Alfred was active in his profession and communities he served as President of Immanuel Lutheran Church at East Aurora during their building program, President of Western New York Guidance Association and President of Association for Lutherans at Delhi. He sang in the church choir for over 35 years and always enjoyed leading the singing at functions both in the church and the community.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Viola(Agle) Richert , his daughter, Anita (Louis) Cicero, Shelter Island Heights; his son, George Richert, Downsville, NY; his sister, Erika Eckhardt, Hamburg, NY; his two grandchildren, Steven Richert, Cleveland, OH; Christopher Richert, Hermosa Beach, CA; his Sisters In Law, Amelia Mate, Hamburg, NY; Julia Hausladen of Eden, NY, Helen and Walter Ackerman of Ft. Myers, FL, and an Uncle to many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents Alfred was predeceased by his brother, Fred Richert, his Sisters in Law, Amelia Mate, Mildred Schacher and his Brother In Law, Carlton Agle.

A memorial service will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Delhi, on December 28, 2010 at 11 AM with Pastor Priest Officiating. Burial will be held in the Spring in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, 3487 North Boston Road, Eden, New York.
