Alice Mary "Nanny" Hanley, 96, of Walton passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 21, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice Cusack Carolan. She married the love of her life John F. (Jack) Hanley on October 4, 1944.

Alice had one of the toughest jobs, she was a homemaker for many years raising her 8 children. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice and her late husband John traveled all across the United States every year for John's Navy reunions to rekindle and enjoy many lifelong friendships. They wintered at their home in Daytona Beach for many years enjoying the sunshine and blue skies. Alice was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Walton. She will be truly missed by all who had the opportunity to know her.

She is survived by her children John J. (Claire) Hanley, Gerard (Rita) Hanley, Joan Nerney, Eileen Smart, Joe Hanley and Pat (Marcia) Hanley. Alice is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years John F. "Jack" Hanley in June of 2011; daughters Jacqueline A. McBride and Alice P. Lynch; brothers James Carolan, Michael Carolan, Andrew Carolan and Philip Carolan; grandson Joseph McBride and son-in-law's Frank Lynch and Gerard Nerney.

Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, NY 13856. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 25 Benton Avenue, Walton with Rev. Edward J. Golding officiating. Please assemble at church. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 11 A.M. at Walton Cemetery.
