Alma Jones, 91, of Walton, passed away on Thursday morning, April 29, 2010 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, following a short illness.

Mrs. Jones was born December 25, 1918 in Midvale, NJ. She is the daughter of the late William and Sadie (Cyphers) Merritt.

Alma lived in New Jersey for most of her early life moving to Vermont in 1967 and settling in Walton for the last 10 years.

She married Ernest Gormley, he passed away in 1987 and was later married to Wesley Jones until his death.

Alma had a passion for arts and crafts, often painting in oils, ceramics and Native American crafts which included building totem poles and designing costumes. She loved gardening, raising beautiful flower beds. Alma also enjoyed dancing, watching birds, snowmobiling, cheering on the New England Patriots, and watching Walker Texas Ranger on TV. She loved life and had great devotion for her family.

She is survived by one daughter: Judith A. diLorenzo of Walton, a son: Ernest (Lynn) Gormley Jr. of Gloucester, VA; her twin sister: Thelma VanLenten of Bloomingdale, NJ; eight grandchildren Michael L.(Stacy) diLorenzo; Karen A. (Giovanni) Degiorgis; Mark L. (Diana) diLorenzo; Brian E. (Deb Liddle) diLorenzo; Karleen A. (Craig) DuMond; Tara E. (George) Ruehl; Paula Gormley; Ernest (Lisa) Gormley III; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Besides her husbands, Alma was predeceased by her brothers, William & George; and her sisters, Amy, Mame, Mildred, Genevieve and Dorothy

Friends and family may call from 11:00AM until 1:00PM on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Funeral services are private. Burial will take place in Walton Cemetery, Walton.
