Obituary

Andrew D. Tomao, 72, of Trout Creek, passed away Friday afternoon, May 13, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family.

Andy was born on December 4, 1943 in Brooklyn, the son of the late Joseph and Caterino (Manganaro) Tomao. He was raised as a child by Albert and Marylou Tomao. He married the former Jayne Backus on July 21, 1963 at St. John the Baptist Church, Walton NY. He was a graduate of Walton High School, Class of 1961. He was a machinist at Amphenol, Sidney for over 40 years where he served as union steward and president of the local union. He was a member and past chief of the Trout Creek Fire Dept., Walton Vet's Club, Guntown American Legion, Cannonsville Rod and Gun Club, Walton Lions Club, and a former coach of the "Bad News Bears" Softball team.

He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, dancing and putting in hay at the farm.

Andy is survived by his loving family, his wife, Jayne, his children, David Tomao, Phoenix, AZ; Alice and Russell Ziglar, Trout Creek; and Nancy Tomao, Sidney; grandkids, Cassidy, Tyson, Kasie, Ashley, and Winter, great-grandkids, Aliya, Madeline, Kinsley and 2 more to make an appearance soon, brother, Joseph Tomao, Sidney; sister, Antionette and brother-in-law, Sal Vascellaro, Sidney; sister-in-laws, Ruth Falkner, Marion Cower, Marjorie Muller, Janet Johnston, Rose Van Valkenburg, brother -in-law, Lloyd Backus, Edward Backus and James Backus. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lawerence and Albert Tomao and brother-in-laws, Robert and Andrew.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 from 4 to 7 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St. Walton.

A graveside service will be held Thursday morning at 11 AM at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton, with the Rev. David Gatje, officiating. Following the service at the cemetery the family will be gathering at the Trout Creek Fire Dept. for refreshment and fellowship.
