Andrew Vas, 86, of Downsville passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 at home, following a long illness.

Andrew was born on August 2, 1931 in Hungary, the son of Andras and Anna Vas. On August 20, 1957 he married the former Teresa Protar in Budapest.

Andrew was a Civil Engineer working for Parson Brinckerhoff based in New York City He worked on many Interstate highway projects in the United States. He had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed science, math, and figuring the solutions to all kinds of problems.

Andrew is survived by his loving family, his wife, Teresa, daughter, Georgina and James Policke of Selden, NY; grandchildren, Ginger and Perrone Gerard of Deer Park, NY; Jennifer and Anthony Volpe of Dix Hills, LI; brothers, Istvan Vas, Laszlo and Yoli Van, sister in laws, Edith Tolly, and Maria Photar, all of Hungary; and several nieces, nephews, cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 2 to 3 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton where services will be held at 3 PM, with the Rev. Edward J. Golding, officiating. Burial will be in Paige Cemetery in the spring.
