Anna F. Mapes, 95, a longtime resident of Walton, passed away early Sunday morning, February 27, 2011 at Countryside Care Center, Delhi, following a long illness.
Anna was born on January 29, 1916 in Kelsey, a daughter of the late Kostanty and Telka (Yankowski) Franskevicz. She had lived in Cannonsville and later moved to Walton. On May 9, 1943 she married Harold Mapes. He died in November of 1981.
Anna was employed for several years by Sintilla-Bendix Aviation in Sidney. She was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Walton. She enjoyed crocheting and loved cooking, often preparing large meals for her family on Sundays and holidays. She also had a passion for gardening and could still be found wearing out a weed wacker until she was 92 years old.
Anna is survived by one daughter: Lucille (Don) Price of Wappingers Falls, NY; seven grandchildren: Kevin (Jackie) Price, Mark Price, Gleason (Jill) Walley Jr, William (Kim) Walley, Ronald (Marilyn) Walley, Brian (Abby) Walley, Christina (Brian) Adamo; great-grandchildren; Jason, Benjamin, Benjamin, Alexander, Katelynn, Dalton, Dylan, Lucas, Grace Mary, Emma, Darrin, Corbin, Clayton and Caleb; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter: Joyce Walley; sisters: Mary Verry, Jennie Seaman, Frances Benowski, Tofka Zazek, Helen Anderson and Nellie Danowski; and one brother: Edward Franskevicz.
Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday from 12 noon to 1:30 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton where a Prayer Service will be held at 1:30 PM, with the Rev. Edward Golding, officiating.
