Obituary

Arthur H. Jamieson, 86, of Walton died on Saturday Afternoon, May 16, 2009 at his home following a brief illness.

Art was born in Walton, the son of the late Orley E. and Sarah Wheat Jamieson.

He attended East Brook Rural School and graduated from Walton High School in 1939, and Ithaca College in 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps Band for two years, and was married during that time to Georgia Haynes of Walton, November 10, 1946 at the United Presbyterian Church in Walton.

After his military service, Art took the Band Director teaching position at Walton Central School in 1946 and taught there through the 1977-78 school year. During those years he sang with the UP Church Choir and was Associate Director of the Delaware County Men's Choir for 45 years.

In 1957 Bess Pond retired from her Walton Music Store. Art and Gerry bought her remaining stock and opened Walton Music House in their home, operating the business until 1990 when their son Larry took it over.

During his career in Music, Arthur played in several local dance bands, he played the baritone horn in the Oneonta Community Band during the summers and played viola in the Catskill Symphony Orchestra during the winters.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 62 years, Georgia; three sons, Lawrence (Joanne) and Theodore (Tammy) both of Walton, and Rex (Cheryl) of Dale City, VA; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, Allen (Anne) Jamieson of Horseheads; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Beers of Port Charlotte, FL; and serveral nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Jamieson Rutherford in July of 2000.

Friends may call on the Family from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday morning at the United Presbyterian Church, corner of North and East Streets, Walton with the Rev. Dr. Lisa Ruth Mays officiating. Burial will follow at Walton Cemetery.
