Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Eleanor Daniels, age 83, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us surrounded by love. Barbara was a kind soul and a genuine friend to many, known for her warm smile, quick wit, and open heart. She brought laughter wherever she went and made everyone feel welcome.

Barbara was born on November 28, 1942, to William and Alberta Owens. She graduated from Walton Central School, where she was a three-sport athlete and proudly voted Class Clown and Most Talkative—titles that perfectly foreshadowed a lifetime of humor and connection. She married the love of her life, Dean F. Daniels, on November 3, 1962, and together they built a life rooted in family, community, and friendship.

Barbara began her career at NYSEG, later working as a legal secretary before becoming a business owner. She operated the Montgomery Ward (later JCPenney) catalog and appliance store, where her warmth and work ethic were well known. Deeply committed to her community and her children's lives, Barbara served on the Delaware Valley Hospital Board, coached small-fry football cheerleaders, was a Cub Scout den leader, and founded an annual two-week in-town wrestling camp.

She also created the beloved "Marvin Avenue Gang," which raised more than $15,000 for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon in support of muscular dystrophy. Many longtime Delaware County Fair attendees will remember the Cutest Baby Contest and the baby lamb auction—both of which were Barbara's ideas and enduring traditions.

In 2007, Barbara and Dean became snowbirds, spending their winters in Arcadia, Florida, where they soaked up sunshine and formed deeply cherished friendships. Barbara loved socializing with friends, playing cards, laughing during water aerobics, and making every gathering a little more joyful.

Later in life, Barbara discovered a love for comedy. She served as MC at several class reunions, writing jokes that poked fun at herself and her classmates. In 2025, she took it one step further, performing stand-up comedy at Arcadia Villages' talent show, earning a standing ovation. Her performance, later posted on YouTube, brought laughter to thousands and perfectly captured her fearless humor and charm. (watch at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qOIt9VCIB0&t=46s )

Barbara had a one-of-a-kind personality. Her funny stories, lighthearted outlook, and "life philosophy" were gifts she shared freely—along with her beloved "old lady jokes." Even in her final days, she made hospital staff laugh and gave her family a lasting memory by joyfully fulfilling her final wishes: chocolate ice cream, a margarita on the rocks with salt, and a glass of red wine, all of which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Barbara especially cherished time with her grandchildren, hosting tea parties when they were young and continuing to create meaningful memories as they grew older. Family was always at the center of her life.

Barbara is survived by her three sons: Dean F. Daniels Jr. and Camie Daniels of Harleysville, PA; David M. Daniels of East Berne, NY; and Daryl R. Daniels and Kristen Daniels of New Milford, CT. She was a proud grandmother to Nathan William, Kohler Steven, Claire Mariana, and Benjamin Steel. She is also survived by her dear cousin Nadene Kopetz, her best childhood friend Aloma Gransbury, her sister-in-law Faith Owens, and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dean F. Daniels and her brothers Edward and Richard Owens.

The world feels a little dimmer without Barbara's presence, but her spirit lives on in the countless memories she created. She brought joy, laughter, and guidance to so many and was, as some of her children's friends lovingly said, "all of our mom." Barbara had a special gift for mentoring young people—offering wisdom on finances, instilling confidence, and encouraging self-worth, self-respect, and belief in oneself. Her impact will be felt for generations.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring. Details will be shared at a later date.  Memorial contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to hospice.
