Barbara J. Race, 90, passed away on May 18th at Fox Hospital Nursing Home following a long battle with Alzheimer's, Dementia and Cancer.

Barbara was born in Walton, NY on December 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Gusse and Jennie (Christian) Wolcott.

Barbara graduated from Walton High School in 1941. She lived most of her life in Walton, NY and retired in Binghamton, NY to be near her family.

First she was employed at Scintilla during World War II then she was Secretary for the Columbia Gas Corporation. She also worked at various part time jobs in Walton, NY; besides being a home maker for her family. She was an active member of the Ladies Democratic Party, Eastern Star, Women's Bowling Leagues, Meals on Wheels and other organizations in Walton and Binghamton, NY.

Barbara enjoyed traveling with her late husband, and watching her grandchildren play sports. She also kept busy by doing crafts, gardening, playing cards, board games, watching dog and horse races.

She lived in Delhi Senior Community Apartments before she had to move into Countryside Care Center Nursing Home. During her stay at Countryside Nursing home she was elected Vice President of Resident Council and known for her great Bingo skills.

Barbara is survived by son Patrick (Carol) Flynn, Franklin, NY, daughter Vicki (Jack) Finn, Clinton, NY, Daughter - Gina Flynn, (Roy Michael) Hernando, FL., step-son, Greg (Lynda) Race and 2 daughters, Grandchildren - Sean (Kathy) Flynn, Columbus, GA., Kimberley (Glenn) McMullen, Maryland, NY., Major Shane (Gina) Finn, Military in Va. , Ryan (Megan) Finn, Malta, NY, Monica (Matt) Carpenter, North Andover, Mass. Kellen Finn, Clinton, NY., Shannon Michael of Arcadia, Florida, Dithanne Michael, Hernando, FL., Great Grandchildren, Alexandra McMullen, Joshua Flynn, Cole Finn, Ryder Finn, Madison Finn, Gavin Finn, Connor Carpenter, Cayla Carpenter, sister in law , Cecile Hawkins of Florida, plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Henry Francis Flynn (former Mayor of Walton) and District Manager of Columbia Gas Company in Walton and the father of her children. Then by her second husband Frank A. Race (Delaware County Fire Coordinator and Plumber), Baby-Cindy Lou Flynn, brother-Howard Wolcott, sister - Elizabeth Kinch, nephew- Ralph Kinch, and a step son- Robert Race.

At Barbara's request there will be no calling hours. She would rather you just take a minute and remember good thoughts of her or send a prayer in memory of her! There will be a graveside service for family and friends at the Walton Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
