Basil Lingardo, 92, of Downsville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at his home with his beloved wife of 70 years at his side following a brief illness.

Born June 10, 1928 in Tarrytown, NY, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Chepetta Lingardo.

Basil was instilled a very strong work ethic when he was growing up. He started working for New York Central Railroad at 16 as a Laborer and in 1952 was hired by General Motors in Tarrytown, NY as a Line Worker. He served over 30 years in that position retiring in 1982. When Basil was not hard at work he enjoyed boating with his wife Louise, water skiing, bowling, roller-skating in his younger years, gardening, playing horseshoes with his friends and neighbors, but most of all loved to eat anything home cooked by his wife.

Survivors include his beloved wife of over 70 years, Louise Lingardo of Downsville, whom he married May 19, 1950; children Joseph B. Lingardo (Mary) and Linda Baglieri (Frank); Sister Marie Copoloa and grandchildren Frankie Baglieri, Kathy Baglieri, Michelle Brady, Lisa Genovese and Richard Lingardo. Basil is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Basil is predeceased by his brothers Rocco, Santo, John, Joseph, David and Frank Lingardo and sisters Marian and Theresa.

Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 10-11 A.M. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A service to celebrate Basil's life will follow at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with the Rev. Edward J. Golding officiating. Social distancing guidelines must be met, and face masks are required. Burial will be held at Paige Cemetery in Downsville on Wednesdat, May 19, 2021 at 11:00 A.M.
