Obituary

Bernard F. Judd, 82, passed away Monday morning, October 19, 2009 at home, surrounded by his family.

Bernie was born in Gaines, Pennsylvania on October 25, 1926, the son of the late Floyd L. and Avis (Little) Judd. He was a graduate of the Pratt Institute majoring in leather tanning. On March 24, 1951 he married the former Jean Jones. She died on April 8, 2002. Bernie was employed as a chemist in the leather industry. He worked for Nopco of Newark, NJ for many years. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WW-II in Okinawa.

Bernie was a member of the VFW Post of Colonia, NJ, a member of the American Leather Chemists Association, and a faithful member of the Plymouth Community Church. Bernie will be remembered as a person who worked "behind the scenes", organizing, cleaning, or whatever was needed, at church, Delaware County Fair preparation, or VFW functions, always getting the job done. He also enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family and in his younger years, dancing with his beloved Jean.

Bernie is survived by 2 daughters, Judy (Butch) Neale of Walton, Jo Judd of Tennessee, 1 Son, Jerry Judd of Annapolis, MD; Grandchildren, Jennifer and Scott Valentine, Gale and Erin Neale, Kyle Neale, and fiance' Shelly Tarsia, Kate Judd; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brock, Madison, and Mallory; brothers, Hardy Judd, PA and Wayne "Pete" (Mary) Judd, sister, Beverly (Robert) Horton, PA; brother-in-law, Bernard Butler, PA; sister and brother in law, Helen and Bud Caffery of Walton, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Butler and sister-in-laws, Mona Judd and Irene Northrup.

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday evening, October 22, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 12:00, noon at the Plymouth Community Church, County Rt. 21, Walton-Franklin Rd., Walton, NY. A calling hour at the church will be held from 11 AM until the time of the service at noon. Interment will follow with full military honors at Walton Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bernie's memory may be made to: Plymouth Community Church, Walton Fire Dept. & EMS, 61 West St., Walton; or the Fisher House, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208. Fisher House is a hospitality home for veterans and their families.
