Betty A. Bivens, 69, a longtime resident of Downsville passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born on February 18, 1944 in Margaretville, the daughter of Harold Conklin and Margaret Butler. On December 8, 1961 she married Raymond I Bivens at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Downsville with the Rev. R.L. Donahue, officiating. Raymond predeceased her on January 9, 2013. Betty worked for 28 years at Countryside Care Center first as a Nurse's Aide then became a Rehab technician. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Downsville, American Legion Post 167 Ladies Auxiliary, serving as past chaplain.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, flower gardening, baking pies and cakes, and feeding the wildlife that visited her home.

Betty is survived by her loving family, her children, Raymond and Jeannine Bivens of Downsville, Robert and Careena Banks Bivens of North Branch, Kimberly and Larry Bifaro of Walton, four grandchildren, Rebecca and Jennifer Bivens, both of Downsville, Anthony and Joseph Bifaro, both of Walton, her brothers, Stanley and Barbara Conklin, Virginia; Larry Conklin, Maine; her sister, Victoria and Victor Ives, Maryland; brother in law, Douglas and Edna Bivens of Montgomery, special friends, Joyce Yanson, Larry and Ginny Berdoff all of Downsville, and her loving dog, Rascal, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 28 at the Colchester Community Church, Downsville, NY with Rev. Michael Shank officiating. Burial for Betty and Raymond will follow the service at Paige Cemetery, Downsville.
