Obituary

Betty D. Moore, 93, of North Syracuse, formerly of Walton, passed away on Thursday afternoon, September 14, 2017 at The Crossings Nursing and Rehab Centre of Minoa, NY; following a long illness.

Betty was born on February 13, 1924 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Richard and Georgianna (Hamilton) Driscoll. On February 12, 1949 she married James S. Moore at the Riverside Church in New York City. He predeceased her on March 4, 1995. She went to college receiving a BA in Theatre Arts at College of William and Mary. The theatre was her passion, in the 1950's she had her own radio show on WDLA, "For Women Only". She was active with Walton Little Theatre Group, and Paper Back Players, where she spent 40 years acting and directing.

Betty worked as a Receptionist, for Dr. David Doane's, office, Dorm Secretary for SUNY Delhi, Susan Shop, Style Shop, and Kent's Gifts. She was a member of the First Congregational Church where she served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, Liturgist, and the pastoral search committee. She also served as a member the Walton Board of Education, and received the B.P. W. Community Service Award in 1995.

Betty is survived by her loving family, children, Nancy Hutson of DeLancey, NY; Michael (Kathleen) Moore of North Syracuse, NY; grandsons, Zachary (Kalie) Moore; Todd Moore; brother, Richard(Susan) Driscoll of Charlottesville, VA; her extended family, Susan (David) Bomalaski & Family; Timothy (Linda) Huyler and Family; Duncan (Erica) Huyler & Family; James Halley and Family; Carolyn Huyler and several cousins. She is also survived by many great friends she made over the years. She was predeceased by her step mother, Dorothy Driscoll, brother Edward Driscoll, close friends Dr. Peter & Margaret Huyler and her goddaughter Louise Halley.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 1 PM at the First Congregational Church, Walton, with a luncheon to follow. For her Syracuse area family and friends, Saturday, September 23, 2017 guests will be received from 2 PM to 4 PM at the American Legion in Cicero, NY. Wear something purple in Betty's honor. Interment will be held privately, at the convenience of the family, at Walton cemetery. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
