It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty D. Tompkins, who left us peacefully on October 30, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on October 1, 1944, in Walton, NY, to her parents Lawrence Doyle and Mary F. Rose.
Betty was a proud graduate of Walton Central School, class of 1962, and she later built a fulfilling career in customer service at Gladstone Insurance in Downsville. Betty was a dedicated member of the Colchester Community Church and an active participant in her community. For over 50 years, she served with pride in the Ladies Auxiliary for the fire department, always ready to lend a hand and support her local heroes.
A true racing fan, Betty had an unwavering passion for NASCAR, especially for her favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. She loved attending races and cheering him on. Family and friends will remember her as the welcoming host of many joyous race parties, where love and laughter filled her home. Her love for sports extended to Syracuse basketball, where she could be found cheering passionately for her team.
Beyond her interests in sports, Betty had a creative flair. She loved crocheting and knitting, making beautiful Afghans that became treasured gifts for family and friends. Betty loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed dancing with her late husband, Walter B. Tompkins, whom she married on June 26, 1966, in Walton, who brought her immense joy.
