Betty L Vail, 91, of Virginia, formerly of Walton passed away at the home of her daughter Pamela in Alton, VA. on Friday, July 20, 2018, following a long illness..

Betty was born on October 18, 1926 in New Berlin, the daughter of the late George and Lelia (Taylor) Wakeman. She was a graduate of Walton High School Class of 1944. On September 14, 1946 she married Ernest J. Vail. He died on October 30, 2014.

Betty first worked for Delaware Telephone Company as an Operator, later she was a Secretary in the Walton High School offices for many years and later was a Study Hall Monitor and Teacher's Aide. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Walton. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, camping, and traveling.

Betty is survived by her children, Gary and Susan Vail of Windsor, NY; Pamela and Mickey Armstrong of Alton, VA; grandchildren, Julie (Greg), Kelly (Mike), Chyanne (James), Natasha (Craig), Dallas (Russell), Kiley (Tony), and 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Roland Wakeman, and her sisters, Bernice Vandervoort, and Jean Shaw.

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 11 am to 12 Noon at the Congregational Church, 4 Mead Street, Walton where services will be held at 12 Noon with Dr. Janet Schwengber, officiating. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

Memorial Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the First Congregational Church.
