Bruce H. McCoy, 91, a long time resident of Walton, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Countryside Care Center, following a long illness.

Bruce was born on April 12, 1919, in Oneonta, the son of the late Clarence and Vessie (Russell) McCoy. He was a graduate of Walton High School. On August 22, 1941 he married the former Thelma Rowell, in Walton. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WW-II, and fought as a rifleman with the 45th divison in Italy at Anzio and Rome and in Southern France, the Rhineland and Central Germany. He was captured at Geney, France; and was a prisoner of war for 7 ½ months.

He was employed for many years by SJ Bailey & Sons, Walton as an equipment operator.

Bruce enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing softball for S. J. Bailey, in the summer leagues.

Bruce is survived by his loving family, his wife, Thelma, 3 daughters, Janice (Donald) Armstrong, Bainbridge; Jeanne Burns, Denver, Colorado; Jacqueline (John) Hattersley, Skaneateles, a son, James (Marie) McCoy, Sidney Center; grandchildren, Mark, Stephen, Jami, Kathryn, James, Matthew, Shawn, Kelly, Marcel, Stacy and Michael, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Carl, Paul, Glen and Robert; and 1 sister, Virginia Van Buren.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, May 21, 2010 from 10 AM to 12 noon at the First Baptist Church, 55 Townsend St. where services will be held at noon with the Rev, Jay O'Connor, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery with full military honors.
