Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce F. Myer, who left us on August 17, 2026. Bruce was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, a cherished friend, and an integral part of the Walton community, where he lived his life with warmth and kindness. Bruce was born on May 14, 1936, in Saugerties, NY to his parents Eugene and Georgetta Myer.

Bruce enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family. He adored visits with his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved working with his hands and making crafts, especially large model ships. He loved nature and watching wildlife and birds from our deck. He had a massive collection of tools and antique items. His favorite thing in recent years was trips to the casino with his family. He was totally devoted to his wife Debbie. They did many trips and outings together over the 50 years that they were together.

He was a meat cutter for Shop Rite for 17 years. He moved from N.J. to Walton in 1980 and raised his family. Bruce and Debbie bought an old farm and learned how to raise beef cows. He and Debbie opened Myers Custom Meat Cutting in 1982, where he did the slaughtering on the farms and processed the meat at the shop. He retired in 1992 and helped Debbie with her business, Countryside Catering, for the next 12 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Myer, his children; Shelley (Bob) Donaldson, Adrianna (John) Rutherford, Renée (Craig) VanAlstyne, and Matthew (Kim) Myer, His grandchildren; Lacie (Christopher) Longo, Leia Tyger, Marguerite Tyger, James Tyger, Robert (Sarah) Donaldson, Megan (Aaron) Donaldson, Jared Lambrecht, Anthony (Marie) Lambrecht, Kelsey VanAlstyne, Evan (Emily) VanAlstyne, and a grand puppy Chole Myer. Bruce is also survived by 18 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, along with his special friends Bill and Kathy Liuzza.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Georgetta Myers, his two sisters Virgina West and Marilyn Myer, and his daughter Holly Tyger.

In honor of Bruce's life, calling hours will be held on Monday August 24, 2026, from 11am-1pm located at the Courtney Funeral Home. Service will be at 1pm with Pastor Milton Cruz officiating. A private graveside will take place at the Walton Cemetery located at 55 Fancher Ave, Walton NY 13856 for family and close friends.

As we say goodbye to Bruce, let us carry his legacy forward in our hearts, cherishing not only the memories but also the kindness he showed to everyone. May he rest in peace, embraced by the love he so freely gave.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend St, Walton NY.
