IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Ann
Hubner
November 5, 1948 – May 14, 2017
Carol Ann Hubner returned to the Lord on May 14, 2017 surrounded by her family. Carol was the loving daughter of Charles and Ann Stout and was born on November 5, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY. After high school, she moved with her parents to Central Islip, Long Island where she met and fell in love with her husband, John Hubner. John and Carol celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on May 13, 2017.
If you asked Carol what she was most proud of, it was her four children, Kimberly David (Glenn), Dawn Selg (Greg), Samantha Brady (Brian), and John Hubner II (Melissa), and her five grandchildren Gabriella, Greg, Sabrina, Jacob and Piper. She cared deeply for her family. Her husband, children and grandchildren adored her. She was an amazing wife, mom, and grandmother (her grandchildren called her Nima).
Carol touched the lives of everyone she met. She always had a kind word and was great with advice. Although the "Brooklyn" would sometimes come out in her she said! Carol was very involved with her parish, St. Peter the Apostle, in Islip Terrace, NY where she was the President of the Rosary Altar Society in 1988. She was also very creative. She was a photographer, artist (both drawing and painting), crafter and loved sewing. Before scleroderma, she was always in the middle of a wonderful project and she won several photography contests.
Twenty-eight years ago, Carol and her family moved to Walton, NY where they built a home and a business. In 1994 she established Butterfly Image, a post-mastectomy fitting company to help woman recovering from breast cancer. She founded the company in honor of a dear friend who touched her life. The community quickly came to love Carol, where she was often found at the library or working at K-Mart and Townsend Elementary School as an aide. She loved working with people. Later, Carol founded J Hubner LLC Fire Security and Electric which she continued to help manage despite her illness. Clients were always happy to hear Carol's cheerful voice.
Carol loved nature, walking along her country road and gardening. She was designing a medicine wheel garden that her family and friends plan to finish. Most recently, Carol became a Reiki Master Level I and was working on publishing articles about her experiences with scleroderma. Her hope was that more research would be done and a cure would be found soon.
There will be a gathering at Carol's home at 1067 Teed Road in Walton on Saturday, May 20th from 2 – 4 pm. All friends are welcome.
