Charles D. Amato, 62 of Downsville passed away Tuesday evening, February 26, 2008, at home surrounded by his family.

Charlie was born in Hoboken, NJ, on October 8, 1945 the son of Charles J. and Jacqulyn (Larsen) Amato. He was a graduate of Downsville Central School, class of 1964. On October 11, 1969 he married the former Joan Bonse at St. Mary's, Downsville. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Naval Reserves. Charlie was employed as superintendent of the Town of Colchester Water Supply. Charlie was a member of the Downsville Fire Dept., Downsville American Legion Post 167, Lions Club, the Cavel Hunting Club, and Christ Episcopal Church, Walton.

Charlie loved the outdoors where he spent much time fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was an accomplished carpenter and mason where on one visit to his home one could easily see the talent, pride and hard work he produced, building his home. Charlie was an all around good guy who would always be there and lend a hand for all his friends and family. Charlie was also a family man who loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, his mother Jacqulyn, Downsville, 2 sons, Brian (Gail) Amato, Lynbrook, NY; Charles (Mary) Amato III, Raleigh, NC; 6 grandchildren, Sydney, Alexa, Jacob, Jim, Zara, Cheyenne, his sister, Diane (Buck) Edwards, Downsville, 2 brothers, David (Brenda) Amato, James (Joann) Amato, both of Downsville, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, special friends, Laura and Larry Miller, and their extended family at Christ Episcopal Church.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 11:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 41 Gardiner Place, Walton with Mother Suzanne Cole, officiating.
