Obituary

Charlotte "Tommy" Grace Roof, a former longtime resident of Hale Eddy and most recently of Trout Creek, passed away after a long illness on November 2, 2012. She had been under the care of hospice at the home she had made with her niece, Fannie Vermilyea on Pine Swamp Road in Trout Creek.

Charlotte was born on February 8, 1922, the daughter of the late Harry and Ina Vermilyea in Scott, Wayne Co., Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of six children and the last to survive of her siblings: Arthur, Charles, Gilbert, Oscar, and Marjorie. Charlotte married Arthur Roof on April 14, 1938 in Castle Creek, NY. He predeceased her on November 3, 1997.

Charlotte worked in Bainbridge for American Plastics for 16 years, retiring in 1974. She always worked with her husband on his ventures of farming, construction, fishing, gardening, hunting, eeling or working in the kitchen at Bucky's bar in Cannonsville. Charlotte enjoyed her gardening, family photos, Country Music and reading.

Charlotte was predeceased by her husband and her siblings. She and

Arthur had a full life, but unfortunately they never had children of their own. She is survived by many nieces and nephews: Sandra Gardepe, Pat and Jim Gardepe, Gail and Karl Kuehn, Edward Mills, Kathryn and June Banks, Warren and Donna Gardepe, Jean Gardepe, Shirley and Jim Fullington, Linda and Roger Seward, Steve and Dawn Gardepe, Barbara Horton, Richard and Cecelia Northrup, Bea and Don Mott, Marjorie Tiffany, Don and Joan Puffer, Vivian and Larry Granger, Fannie Vermilyea, and Jim Waldron. One brother-in-law, Howard Robinson survives. She is also survived by her devoted caregivers Gary Vermilyea, Debra Mills, Kelly Layton Mullineaux, Vicky Seaman, Brooke, and Penny. She was predeceased by nephews; Richard Gardepe and Gerald Francisco and a niece Mary Gardepe DePaolo.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St, Walton from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. where services will be held at 2 PM with the Rev Judy Travis. Burial will be in the Sidney Center Cemetery beside her husband, Arthur and mother-in-law Laura Roof.
