Clair W. Galley, 85, a lifelong Town of Tompkins resident, passed away Monday, June 11, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Clair was born in Rock Royal, (Walton), NY on December 31, 1921, the son of the late George and Susie (Storrer) Galley. Clair married Wahneta LaTourette on October 11, 1947 at the Rock Royal Methodist Church. He was a dairy farmer and owner of Clareta Farm in the Town Of Tompkins.

Clair was an honorary and long time member of NYS & USA FFA, a member of the Agricultural Stabilization & Water Conservation Service for 30 years, the Farm Bureau, Eastern A.I. and the Rock Royal Cooperative Creamery, where he served as president for many years. He also served as deacon of the Trout Creek Community Church for many years. Presently he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Walton.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and Yankee baseball. He was an avid reader of historical and Civil War books. Clair enjoyed working on his garden and lawn and was a former producer of maple syrup. As a young man, 50 years ago he had a stone quarry, cut timber, and had a canned milk route.

He especially enjoyed family gatherings. At the last one, on May 20, 2007, he attended his great granddaughters recital.

Clair is survived by his loving wife: Wahneta, one daughter: Patricia Galley of Tompkins and two sons: David (Cathy) Galley of Garrettsville, NY, and Gary Galley of Tompkins; two brothers: Bob Galley and Tom (Carol) Galley; Grandchildren: Amy (Mike) Rifanburg, Jeffrey (Michel) Galley, Sarah, Sonja, Sam and Sean Galley and Georgette Galley and; great grandchildren, Emily, Claire, Brynne, Molly, Marissa & Austin. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to call at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, on Friday, June 15, 2007 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Walton, on Saturday, June 16, at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Jay O'Connor officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.
