Cornelis Van Buren, 86, of Walton , passed away Thursday evening, March 20, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family.

Cornelis was born on March 28, 1927 in Maasland, Holland, one of thirteen, the son of the late J. J. and Jaapja Johanna VanBuren. He arrived to the US in 1946 to fulfill his interpretation of the American dream. On December 24, 1956 he married the former Margaret Whitbeck at the United Presbyterian Church, Walton..

He was self-employed on his family dairy farm, where he and his family also tapped maple trees to make syrup, maple cream and maple candies. He was a long time and faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Farm Bureau and the NYS Maple Producers Assn. He enjoyed woodworking, working the land and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He will be remembered as a hardworking man who provided for his family.

He is survived by his wife: Margaret(Whitbeck) Van Buren three sons: Larry Van Buren of Walton; Jay Van Buren of Walton; Alan and Alycia Van Buren of Sidney Center, NY; his grandchildren, Donald and Casandra, Mariah, Julia, Elijah Van Buren; Lee and Jessica diLorenzo and Ethan diLorenzo, 3 great grandchildren, Allison, Meghan and Dalton, brothers and sisters in Law, Clifford and Rolla Whitbeck, Franklin; Laverna Maus, Roscoe; Eunice Whitbeck, Walton and Eileen Van Loan, Tennessee and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, March 24 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
