Obituary

Cynthia J. Shapiro, 61, of Walton passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 11, 2015 at Delaware Valley Hospital.

Cynthia was born on September 30, 1954 in Nyack, the daughter of John and Florence Gwinnett Bicknell. She lived in the Sloatsburg area for the last couple of years, until moving to Walton.

She was self-employed as a Home Health Aide.

Cynthia enjoyed nature and long walks in the country, gardening, and feeding all the wild life that visited her home on the mountain. She also loved spending time with her kids and grandkids.

Cynthia is survived by her daughters: Amanda and James Nash Bicknell of Walton; Alexis & Adam Gurnee-Mann of Oneonta; and one son: Joseph Gurnee of Florida, grandkids, Joseph Jr., Morgan, Jack, James Jr., Joseph and Tyla; brothers, Ronald and Debbie Bicknell, Stoney Point, NY, and John and Millie Bicknell, San Antonio, TX; sisters, Alicia and Mike Thurston, Tompkins Cove, NY; and Kim and Bill McElory, Garneville, her husband, Michael Shapiro and Mike's father, Marvin; and several nieces nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held at 1 PM with the Rev. James Spain, officiating.
