David B Clapperton, 74, of Walton passed away, surrounded by his loving family, early Monday morning, July 1, 2013 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, following a short illness.

David was born September 29, 1938 in the town of Colchester, the son of Ray D. Clapperton and Edna (Bennett) Clapperton Meres. He graduated from Sidney High school class of 1957.

On May 28, 1960 he married the former Joan Walker in Sidney Center.

Moving to Walton in 1965 with his family, he was employed at Bronson Smith Motors. Later he became employed by NYSEG in Walton as a mechanic, retiring in 1994 as a Chief Mechanic. After retirement he became self employed as a vinyl graphic designer creating numerous signs, banners and vehicle graphics.

In his spare time, Dave enjoyed traveling with his wife Joan throughout the USA and abroad, attending local auctions, sporting events of his children and grandchildren, car shows and stock car races as part of his son Mike's pit crew.

David will be deeply missed by his loving family, wife of 53 years, Joan, his son Michael (Lisa) Clapperton of Masonville, daughter Lisa (Jeff) Held of Unadilla, his grandson Dennis Clapperton and granddaughters Amber and Kali Benedict ; his brother Melvin "Bill" (Sherrie) Clapperton of Sidney Center, Brothers and Sisters in laws; Philip Baumes of Unadilla; Amos and Sandra Finch of Walton; Darryl and Janice Loker of Sidney Center; Bill and Robin Walker of Bainbridge; John and Pat Walker of Henderson NV along with several nieces nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Elaine Clapperton, Lois Baumes and brother in law Ronald Walker.

Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 11-1PM at the Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where services will be held at 1PM with the Rev. Larry Light, officiating.
