Dereck H. Stephens, 42, of Walton passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, August 12, 2017 at home, after a long battle of kidney failure.

Dereck was born on December 15, 1974 in Walton, the son of Dale and Susan (Alger) Stephens. He was self-employed doing construction jobs painting, carpentry and cutting stone. He was previously employed with his dad at Fah's Construction and locally at Big M. He enjoyed adventures in kayaking, hunting, riding and fishing. He also was a talented artist and poet.

Dereck is survived by his son, Tanner Stephens (Emily Gorr) of Livingston Manor, NY; his father Dale and mother Susan, sister, Rebecca and Michael Scozzafave of Florida; brothers, Anthony Stephens, Dale James Stephens (Ashlee Gransbury) both of Walton; nieces and nephews, Scarlet, Kylie, Gabriel, Mason, Blaze and MacKenzie, aunts and uncles, Patricia Aitken, Michael Alger, David and Coral Alger, Mark and Robin Alger, Douglas Alger, Tim Alger, Donna Pinney, Deborah and Michael Wright, and Mary and Frank Eggleton, cousins, Steven Aitken, Stacey and Barry Wood, Jason and Candice Alger, Jenny Lynn and Thomas Hilts, Jeffrey Alger (Danielle), Melissa and Howie Brodt, Jessie Wormsley (Amanda), Alisa and Rob Hathaway, Lorrinda and Tom Edwards, Stephanie Wheeler (Brian), Danny and Ramsey Stephens, Angela Wright (Joe), Kimberly Wright (Zach). Dereck was predeceased by grandparents, Kermit and Josephine Stephens

And Milton and Laverna Alger, uncles, Dudley Stephens, Bill Pinney, and Jerry Aitken.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday afternoon, August 17, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held Friday morning at 11 AM with the Rev. Bert More, officiating.
