Donald J. Cook, 79, of Walton passed away on Monday afternoon, July 13, 2009 at his home following a long illness.
He was born on November 12, 1929 in Walton, the son of James and Frances Brown Cook.
Mr. Cook served in the US Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Don was employed as a machine operator at S.J. Bailey and Sons of Walton for over 33 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Walton American Legion Post 32. Don was a gemologist, he loved making jewelry out of the treasures that he would dig up. He enjoyed leather working and made several purses, wallets, belts and leather goods. Don also was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his companion Dorothy Spry and her son Harold; two brothers, Robert Cook and Harry Cook; one sister, Frances Gascon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother, Charlie; and sisters, Dorothy, Virginia and Wanda.
Friends and family may call from 2-4PM on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where a funeral service will follow at 4PM with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating.
