Obituary

Donald S. Kennedy, 92, of Walton passed away Wednesday morning, February 3, 2010 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

Mr. Kennedy was born on December 9, 1917, in Peabody, MA, the son of the late Worthington and Dorothy (Sayward) Kennedy.

Donald graduated from UConn on June 11, 1939 with a Bachelor of Science in Teaching Training in Agriculture with a minor in Dairy.

Donald served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. While he was stationed in England, Donald met Irene Wainman. The couple married on September 20, 1944. It was a union that lasted nearly 64 years, until her passing in May of 2008. Upon returning, they settled in Treadwell, where Donald was raised and finally relocated to Walton in 1965.

Mr. Kennedy was employed for several years by DMV in Delhi.

Donald and Irene enjoyed ballroom dancing, which Irene had taught him. He also had a green thumb, keeping meticulous vegetable and flower gardens around his home.

He is survived by two children, Allan Kennedy and his wife, Nora of Middletown, MD, and Mary Loukota and her husband, John of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Benedict and Margie Cole both of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife, Donald was predeceased by his brother, William Kennedy.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Walton Cemetery, Fancher Ave., Walton, NY
