Donald (Larry) Lawrence of Shinhopple, New York, born on December 22, 1933 to Leo and Helen Lawrence, McSherrystown, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on November 1, 2024.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Christina and their children, Leigh LaMonica (Bruce), Cottonwood AZ, David Lawrence (Melissa), Downsville, NY and Jonathan Lawrence (Jennifer) Downsville, NY, as well as his sister, Elizabeth Lawrence, Virginia.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Lawrence (April) and Kathryn McAteer (Tyler) and four great grandchildren, Evan, Hunter, Theodora and Sebastian.
Donald graduated from Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown, PA. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 9-18-52 to 8-25-56. He was stationed in the U.K., where he met and fell in love with his sweetheart, Christina, and married her in London, England on 8-17-57. He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Penn State University.
Donald worked for IBM for 25 years, with overseas assignments and in the U.S. He was a member of the James S. Moore American Legion Post 167, Downsville, NY for 23 years.
Donald helped to create the expense reports and provide back up documentation for the FEMA project regarding the January 1996 Delaware County flooding event. Thus saving the Town of Colchester close to a million dollars in taxes. Donald also served as a member of the Town of Colchester Planning Board from 2012 through 2020.
Donald's wife and family wish to send special thanks to the caring staff at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Corbett Community Corporation at P.O. Box 103, Downsville, NY 13755.
Visitation hours are Friday, November 8, 2024 from 4 – 7 P.M. at The Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, NY. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 12:30 P.M. at John the Baptist Church, 25 Benton Ave., Walton, NY.
