Donald Edwin Stanton Sr. passed away on August 21, 2013 surrounded by his wife and children in Branson, MO.
Donald (Donnie) was born November 4, 1948 in Walton, NY to Genevieve B. (Barnes) & Clayton Stanton Sr. of Walton, NY. Donnie graduated from Walton High School in 1969. He was the first New York State Wrestling Champion to graduate Walton and he held the record for 30 years. He was coined as the "Orange Pumpkin," by newspapers across the state.
Donnie left high school and went on to become an over the road trucker. He later became a police office in both Walton & Florida. He then moved south to work construction. After spending some time in construction he moved home and ran a gas station in Walton.
Donnie met his wife Penny (Gray) in Walton and they spent 40 years together. They had three children Candy Jo, Sabrina, & Donald Jr.
Donnie has owned and operated several restaurants over the years and always enjoyed cooking for friends and family. Eventually returning south and settling in Branson, MO with his wife and family. While in Branson, MO his love of farming was able to truly flourish. He loved animals and leaves many behind including his 80 chickens.
Donnie is known for his love of travel, his true and sincere hospitality, his great sense of humor, his unique hat, and his true passion for Roy Roger's music and acting.
Donnie's spirit lives on in his wife Penny (Gray), his daughter Candy Jo and John Laverty, daughter Sabrina Stanton and son Donald Stanton Jr., his five grandchildren, Little Penny, Kyara, Cheyenne, Junior, and Kylee all of Branson, MO. His siblings, Edward of Delhi, Kenneth of Downsville, Clayton Jr. (Patricia) Stanton of Walton, Marilyn (Gerald) Townsend of Downsville, Deborah Barnes of Oneonta, David (Rhonda) Stanton of Walton, Randy (Tina) Stanton of Walton, Susan (Bruce) Gregory of Walton, Dawn (James) Armstrong of Downsville, Todd Stanton of Mount Upton, Katrina Stanton (Cody) of Bainbridge. His aunts, Margie (Cliff) Burgin of Bovina, and Martha (Hoyt) Stanton of Walton; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was reunited with his beloved parents Genevieve B. (Barnes) Stanton, Clayton Stanton Sr., his brother Gerald Stanton, and his sister Regina Stanton.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednersday, August 28, 2013 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Ave., Walton where services will be held at 1 PM with the Rev. Larry Light, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.
