IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris A.
Robinson
December 27, 1924 – June 18, 2019
Doris A. Robinson, 94, of Walton passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born December 27, 1924 in Pepacton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Leona Miller Allen. Early in life Doris attended a one-room schoolhouse in Pepacton and graduated from Downsville Union Free School, currently the Schoolhouse Inn and Restaurant. By eminent domain, Doris moved with her family in 1947 to make way for the NYC Pepacton Reservoir Watershed Program. Their belongings were transported by wagon by Bess and Belle, the family's draft horses to their "new" venture, a dairy farm. Doris first worked at Cable's Auction in her early years, then J.J. Newberry's Department Store and finally made her career at NBDC retiring as head teller after 27 years in 1987.
In 1998 Doris married the late James L. Robinson and enjoyed eight years of marriage and the blessings of a loving second family. During her 32 years of retirement she continued gardening, knitting, and quilting. Many of her beautiful handiworks received blue ribbons at the Delaware County Fair, and family members over the years received these treasured heirlooms. Doris was especially adept at moving large stones into picturesque stone walls on her property - being in the great outdoors was one of her great loves! She even enjoyed tent camping in Rhode Island for the first time at 93! She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed her church family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was predeceased by her brother Robert Allen and niece Inga Allen. Survivors include her sister-in-law Lynn Allen, nephews Jeff and Kevin Allen and niece Meredith Johansson (Eric); step-children Gail McNee (Jeff), Mary Eggleton (Frank), John Robinson and Linda Robinson Yawn; Doris is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Doris's life will be held on Friday, August 2, at her home, 988 John Lockwood Road at 10 am. All are invited to attend.
Memorial donations may be made in Doris's memory to Catskill Area Hospice, 297 River Street, Oneonta, NY 13820.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Courtney Funeral Home, Walton. To leave a special message of hope and comfort for Doris' family, please visit www.courtneyfh.com.
