Dorothy Beers of Florida formerly of Walton passed away on January 4, 2015 in Florida.

Dorothy was born in Delhi, NY on January 14, 1922, and grew up in Walton, NY in the Catskill Mountains. She graduated from King County Nursing School in Brooklyn, NY as a Registered Nurse. Dorothy proudly served her country in the U. S. Army Corp of Nurses during WWII. Dorothy devoted her life to the care of others and was a member of numerous civic organizations.

Dorothy was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years in NY before retiring to Port Charlotte Florida in 1986 with her late husband Rex W. Beers. He predeceased her in 1990.

Dorothy was a choir Soprano for over 50 years at United Church of Christ in Liverpool, NY and in Florida t the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Charlotte County Choral and the South Port Singers.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Carol Steene and her husband Bill, Sharon Granzow and her husband Brad, Michele Thompson and her husband Daniel, her granchildren, Wendy Carguello, Todd Beishline, Denise Cameron, Lindsay Geyer, Matthew Steene, Paul and Lauren Granzow, Danielle Stavropoulos, Brian and Erika Thompson, and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Rex and her daughter Pamela Cameron.

Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 12 noon to 1PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton where services will be held at 1PM with the Rev. Dale Ashby, officiating. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery with full military honors in the spring.
