Dorothy L. Benson 99, of Walton went to be with her Lord on July 30, 2011.

Dorothy was born May 11, 1912 in Brooklyn, New York the daughter of the late William and Louisa (Herter) Tranter. On February 4, 1933 she married August M. Benson who predeceased her on February 2, 1991.

Dorothy lived in North Merrick, Long Island where she and her husband raised their four sons. After her husband's death she moved to Walton to be closer to her family. In her spare time she enjoyed being outside in the garden growing flowers and vegetables.

Dorothy is survived by 3 sons; Robert Benson and Harold Benson both of Spring Hill, Florida and Bruce (Barbara)Benson of Orient Point, NY; her daughter in law, Alana Benson of Walton, NY; her 11 grandchildren; Harold Benson, Janet (Todd) Holly, Lori (Jeff)Falisi, Kevin (Lisa)Benson, Christine (Gerard) Lambert, Denise (Torrin) Webler, Karen Benson, Debbie (David) Kolkman, Keith (Claire) Benson, Derek Benson, Tyler Benson, her 16 great grandchildren; her special nieces; Louise Licata and Ruth Brown both of New Jersey, and Lois Johnson of Texas. She was predeceased by her son Walter Benson on August 18, 2005.

A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 1PM at Pinelawn Cemetery, 1 Pinelawn Road, Farmingdale, New York.
