Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy L. Elmore, who left this world on February 11, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on June 16, 1931, in Walton, NY, Dorothy was a beloved member of her community, known for her warm spirit and unwavering kindness.

Dorothy dedicated many years of her life to serving the students at Townsend School in Walton, NY, where she worked in the cafeteria. Her warm smile and nurturing nature made her a treasured presence among the children and staff alike. She was proud of her role in supporting the growth and well-being of students, providing them with not just meals, but a genuine sense of community.

Growing up during the Great Depression, Dorothy's experiences shaped her character and resilience. She had a particular fondness for brussels sprouts, a testament to her resourceful spirit, while her dislike of pancakes reflected her childhood memories of scarcity. Throughout her life, Dorothy found joy in the companionship of her beloved dachshunds, who brought her laughter and comfort.

She is survived by her many nieces, nephews and special friends who have cherished memories and will carry her spirit in their hearts.

Dorothy was the daughter of the William Gray and Margret Gray, who have predeceased her. She is also predeceased by her beloved husband, Mitchell Elmore and her beloved son Ricky Elmore.

Calling Hours for Dorothy L. Elmore will be held on Friday February 20, 2026, 12pm-2pm, with a service at 2pm. Pastor Christine Lindeberg will be officiating the service at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St. Walton.

Burial will take place (tentatively) on Friday April 10, 2026 at 1pm at the Walton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dorothy's memory to a local animal shelter, honoring her love for dachshunds and commitment to caring for all creatures.

Dorothy L. Elmore will forever be remembered for her loving-hearted nature, her resilience, and her ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life. She will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
