Dorothy C. Hodge, 94, a long time resident of Walton, passed away Wednesday morning, March 2, 2011 at Delaware Valley Hospital, following a long illness.
Dorothy was born on June 18, 1916 in Trout Creek, the daughter of the late William and Grace (Combs) McLaughlin. On April 19, 1941 she married William S. Hodge in Franklin. He died on Feb. 18, 1984. She worked on the family farm for many years until the death of Bill when she moved into the village.
Dorothy was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Walton where is was a past deacon, and a member of the Dorcas Circle when it started in the 1950's. In May of 2000 she was given the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Membership. She was a member of the Delaware Valley Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered at the visitor's desk and the Trout Creek Senior Club. She also volunteered at the Meals on Wheels, and for Lifeline. She also enjoyed knitting sweaters, embroidering them with all kinds of critters; and reading. Dorothy loved animals especially her cats. She also loved horses and was never intimidated by them. She always had a house full of kids since she was a foster mother to many children, over the years.
Dorothy is survived by her loving family, her children; William (Sarah) Hodge, Florida; Sharon Hodge, Walton and Stephen (Lois) Hodge of Walton; her grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Jason, Heather, David, her great grandchildren, Caelan, Keara, Justin, Ayla, Malachai, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Raymond McLaughlin.
Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, March 4, 2011 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning at 11 AM at the United Presbyterian Church, 58 East Street, Walton, with the Rev. Lisa Ruth Mays, officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery in the spring.
