Douglas F. Boyd, 84, a lifelong resident of Walton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 12, 2015 at his home in Walton.
Doug was born on November 19, 1930 in Walton, NY, the son of the late A. Lavelle and Freda (Brown) Boyd. On August 7, 1952 he married the former Alberta "Bert" Shaver. Bert passed away on August 30, 2002.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman; involving himself with any activity that would let him get out of the house. He was an avid deer hunter and his rack mounts proved his passion. Doug enjoyed to fish and tend his garden. He was a shareholder in the East Brook Sportsman's Club, a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of the Club Royale in Walton and the Walton VFW: Truman C. Tobey Post #32. Doug retired in 1987 from his position as a Line Foreman at NYSEG in Walton after working most of his life there.
He proudly served our country in both the Army National Guard and the U.S Army. He often told stories about being stationed in Austria during the Korean War as an MP.
Doug is survived by his loving family: his son, Wayne D. (Kathy) Boyd of Walton; daughters, Cindy (Dennis) Ammon of Walton and Christine F. (Skeet) Wildey of Walton; grandchildren, Mac (Tiffany) Moneta, Jill (Jason) Ott, Trevor (Tina) Ammon, Art Boyd, Emmy Boyd, Hunter Wildey, and Travis Wildey; great-grandchildren, Alex, Abby, Trenton, Eamon, Keelan and Sadie. Doug also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved cat Minnie. He was predeceased by his wife, Alberta Boyd and his brother Robert Boyd.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday June, 15 2015 at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton from 6PM to 8PM . A graveside funeral service with full Military Honors will be held at 11AM on Tuesday June, 16 2015 at the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Ave. in Walton with the Rev. Bert More, officiating.
Memorial contributions in memory of Doug may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 542 Main Street, Oneonta, New York 13820 or the Walton EMS, 61 West Street, Walton, New York 13856. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
