Obituary

Douglas W. MacDonald, 86, of Walton passed away Tuesday morning, February 2, 2016 at Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich, following a short illness.

Doug was born on November 19, 1929 in Delhi, the son of the late Ernest and Daisy (Beers) MacDonald. He was a graduate of Delaware Academy, class of 1947. On March 25, 1951 he married the former Joyce Carpenter at the First United Methodist Church, Walton. They shared 61 glorious years together. She died on April 23, 2012. Doug was a member of the Club Royale Oasis, Walton; Walton Vets Club; Apex Hunting Club; and former member of the Walton Fire Dept. He was employed for 43 years as a Plant Superintendent for S.J. Bailey's in Walton. Doug had a passion for woodworking and designed many original furniture pieces.

Doug loved watching all sports, playing golf and bowling. He was a respected bowler and led the Walton city league with high average for many years. He was a natural born storyteller amusing his family and friends with tales both true and not so true. Doug loved his wife, Joyce dearly along with his kids and grandkids. Many summers were spent with family and friends at the cottage on Beaver Lake in Windsor. Doug and Joyce always opened their home to celebrate good times and play rings. He and Joyce earned numerous 1st prizes on both Scarecrow and Christmas decorating. He led by example and imparted wisdom at every turn. He loved family outings, enjoyed watching the Yankees and mowing his lawn. He will be remembered for his integrity and his intellect.

Doug is survived by four sons: Scott (Suzanne) MacDonald of Delhi; David (Andrea) MacDonald of Auburn, NY,;Thomas MacDonald of Walton; Patrick MacDonald of Walton, grandchildren, Geoffrey, (Tamie), Mirranda, ( Matt), Rickie, Jason, Jeremy, (Amy), Justin, Ashley, (Brandon) Matt, Kendra, Brandon, Marrissa, Joshua, (Katrina), Tamara, and Nicholas, sister, Augusta (Peter) Frisbee, Rocky Mount, VA; brother-in-law, Joseph (Kathleen) Carpenter; a very special friend, Jeanie Schmeidel, Oneonta; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug was predeceased by brothers, David and Robert and sisters, Marion Spader and Bea Dailey.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday morning at 11 AM with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in Nicholson Cemetery, Nicholson, PA. in the spring. The family invites you to join them at Danny's Restaurant following the services.
