Obituary

Dr. William S. Korwan, DDS was born March 25, 1949 at 10:26 pm and died at 10:26 am on June 29, 2026 at the age of 77. After a short illness, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at his home he lovingly referred to as his “Haven on the Hill.”

Bill was raised in Roslyn, New York where he grew up with his two younger brothers, George and Mark. In his youth, Bill was an active participant in Boy Scouts where his love of flowers, birds and nature was fostered. It was during summer family trips that Bill first visited Walton, his eventual home.

Bill went to college at St. Bonaventure and graduated from dental school at Georgetown in Washington DC.

He started his career in Walton taking over the practice of Dr. DeMund, located on Delaware St. above the Webb clothing store. He later joined the Walton Dental Group and in 1998 he opened his own practice at 83 Liberty Street. He was very grateful for the dedicated support of longtime employees Debbie Finkle-Stanton, Diane Sonner, Jo Hoffmeister, and Lindy Taggart.

Patients walking into the office were met with the wonderful music he loved most - Jimmy Buffett, Bob Dylan, Crosby Stills and Nash, Neil Young, The Byrds, John Denver, and Paul Simon, to name a few. And when you sat in his dental chair for his custom painless care, you were surrounded by dozens of pictures of his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Patricia, his brother George, and his step-daughter Barbie.

Bill is survived by his brother Mark, his wife Alice, his daughters Alison Berryman, Emily Worthy, and Elizabeth Korwan, as well as numerous Lister and Korwan step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his very good friend, George Sonner.

Bill was a lover of nature, family, cats, dogs, music, and “gardening” and shared a special love of skiing with his son, Tim Korwan. The family will treasure their memories of ski trips, concerts, times at the ocean, but most of all summers and holidays spent at Bill and Alice’s beloved home. He leaves a very large and loving family who are all grateful for his impact on their lives. We have no doubt that someday we will meet again, enjoying “Cheeseburgers in Paradise.”

Bill’s family would like to extend an immense, heartfelt expression of gratitude to the Town of Walton on Bill’s behalf - especially to his patients. Bill was very honored to have been welcomed and supported by the town, and to have been your dentist for over forty years.

End-of-life services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart of the Catskills Humane Society in Bill’s honor at www.heartofthecatskills.org.

“Some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but I had a good life all the way.” Jimmy Buffett
