Edgar S. VanBuren, a longtime Walton resident, died Sunday, November 1, 2020, at the age of 100.

Born September 25, 1920, in Platte, South Dakota, he was the son of Martin and Machtild Vringdenhil Van Buren. He was the youngest of four children born to the Dutch immigrants, and the only one of their children born in America. The family moved to New York State in the 1930s and Edgar served in the United States Army from 1944-1946, stationed in Georgia.

For most of his professional life he was a machinist and engineer. He worked for an aircraft company before coming to Walton. While here, he worked for Del-Met and then went to work for Scott's Machine Corporation until his retirement. He married Jeannette Bartschi and they enjoyed more than 59 years of togetherness before her passing on October 1, 1993.Edgar built the house his family lived in and enjoyed, and in his spare time he was active in woodworking and tinkering. He and his family enjoyed trips to Texas and South Dakota.

Surviving are his children; Carol Ann Haggenmiller, Sandi VanBuren, Martin VanBuren and Michael VanBuren; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joan; his grandson, Lee; and his siblings.

A calling hour to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Monday, November 9, 2020 from 12-1 P.M. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A graveside service to celebrate Edgar's life will follow at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton with Bert More Officiating. Social distancing guidelines must be met, and face masks are required.

Memorial contributions in Edgar's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
