Obituary

Eleanor K. Covell, age 99, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Plant City, FL. She was born on July 6, 1926, to Delmer and Mildred (Smith) Pratt.

Eleanor was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved member of her extended family. She is survived by her children: Harvey D., Jr. (Claudia), Kernersville, NC; Steve (Beth), Kernersville, NC; and Kathy (Scott) Davis, Otego, NY; and daughter-in-law, Mary, Walton, NY. She was a proud grandmother to Bekki (Cara), Julie (Steve), Kevin (Josh), Andy (Dave), Erika, Kyle (Jen), Katie (Josh), Heather (Darren), and Erin (Logan), and a loving great-grandmother to 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

On November 28, 1946, Eleanor married Harvey D. Covell Sr., beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, hard work, and community. Together, they owned and operated the Ramble Hill Campground in Masonville, NY and founded the C&C Snack Bar, supporting many local fairs and auctioneers over the years.

Eleanor dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She studied at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and went on to serve for many years at the Delaware County Nursing Home in Delhi, NY, and later at Thonotosassa Nursing Home in FL, where she and Harvey spent their winters.

She was a charter member of the Walton Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary and a past matron of the Eastern Star. Eleanor found joy in sewing, crocheting, reading, and traveling—but perhaps most memorable was her love of cooking for others. She was especially known for her famous strawberry shortcake, peach cobbler, and chili, which she generously prepared for family gatherings and community events. Each year, she proudly provided her signature strawberry shortcake for the Walton/Delaware County picnic held at Robinson Orange Park in Plant City, FL.

Eleanor’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Harvey D. Covell Sr.; her siblings, Ronald Pratt and Joyce (Pratt) Roy (Tom); her daughter, Shirley June; her son, Patrick; and her granddaughter, Brenda.

Calling hours will be held at Courtney Funeral Home, Friday April 10th, 2026, from 11-1pm, with a 1pm service officiated by Rev. Peggy Fabrizio. Burial to follow at the Walton Cemetery located at 55 Fancher Ave, Walton, NY.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Courtney Funeral Home located at 25 Townsend St, Walton, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Eleanor’s name may be made to the Walton Fire Department or the Walton Methodist Church.
