Elinor F. Northrup, 81, a lifelong resident of Walton passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Delaware Valley Hospital of Walton, following a long illness.

Elinor was born on July 20, 1932 in the town Of Colchester on the family farm on Coles Clove Rd., the daughter of the late Frank A. and Florence (Jacobson) Northrup. She was a graduate of Walton Central School, class of 1952. While raising her five children alone, she attended SUNY Delhi where she received her LPN Degree in Nursing. Her nursing career started in Smith Hospital in Walton and later in Delaware Valley Hospital. She also worked in the Lab at DVH.

Elinor was a Woman of the Moose Lodge in both Sidney and Oneonta. She also worked a long time with Alma Lynch at the Walton Chamber of Commerce. She was a long time member of the Walton Grange as well as an avid dancer belonging to several area dance clubs. She belonged to the Walton Methodist Church for nearly 60 years and later the Plymouth Church, Walton.

Elinor's doors were always open for friends and neighbors, if a place was needed to hang their hat.

Elinor is survived by her five children, Debbie (Gary) Sherwood Maryland, NY; Terri and Mike Green Walton; Ellie (Jim) Truman Walton; and Karen (Terry) Glance Davenport Center; 10 grandchildren, Sachi (Damon) West; Keegan and Tadd Sherwood, Trista (Ryan) Lindsay, Kateland Coons , Justen Green, Joshua Green, Meaghan Condon, Michelle (Pete) , Dustin (Jessica) Truman, 14 great-grandchildren, Darrick, Leeanna, Makenna West, R.J. and Kendra Lindsay, Donta and Lexie Sherwood, Annabelle Van Horn, Adara and J.R. McKinley Allen, Brihnley Roloson, Jerome, Cadence, Zander Stanton, brothers and sister in laws, Richard (Cecelia) Northrup; Roger (Linda) Northrup Walton; James and Neal Northrup, both of Walton; Barbara Northrup Walton, Joyce Northrup Sidney; Aunt Mary Allen Sidney Center and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elinor was predeceased by long-time companion, Arthur Neer, brother, Milton Northrup, sister-in laws Ina, Maxine and Irene Northrup; nephew, David Northrup and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday evening from 5 to 7 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, Walton. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.
