Obituary

It is with sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Dutchie” Hofstetter, who left us peacefully at the age of 94. Born on December 12, 1931, Elizabeth was a bright and beautiful spirit whose warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, infectious laughter, and the deep love she shared so freely with her family and friends.

Elizabeth embraced life fully and found joy wherever she was. Whether she was skiing in the French Alps, swimming in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Miami, or riding horses in the Catskill Mountains, she brought a sense of wonder, adventure, and gratitude to every moment.

At the age of 18, Elizabeth moved to New York to begin her nursing career. Through hard work, compassion, and dedication, she quickly rose through the ranks, serving in New York, Paris, and Miami Beach. By her 30s, she had become a head nurse, and she later served as the head administrator of an entire hospital in Vero Beach, Florida. After moving to California to be near her children and grandchildren, she continued her life of service in nursing, becoming a teacher and mentor to thousands of aspiring young nurses in San Diego.

More than anything, Elizabeth loved her family. She treasured time with the people she loved and had a special way of making everyone feel cared for. Whether it was through a warm conversation, her steady presence, or one of the wonderful meals she made with so much skill and love, she made people feel at home. To be with Elizabeth was to feel comforted, and to be loved by her was a gift.

Elizabeth is lovingly remembered by her children, Roy and Ben Hofstetter; her grandchildren, Tiffany, Chantilly, Dutch, Andrew, and Jesse, who affectionately called her “Grammy Awards”; and her great-grandchildren, Leon, Olivia, and her namesake, Elizabeth. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and she shared a deep and special bond with each of them. The love she poured into her family will remain with us always.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Adolf (AD) Hofstetter Jr., a devoted husband and father; her loving parents, Isabelle Townsend and Carroll T. Dutcher; and her stepfather, Charles Townsend. We find comfort in imagining her reunited with those she loved so dearly.

Born and raised in Walton, New York, Elizabeth was surrounded by the love of her extended family including; Johnny, Patty and Billy Davis, Jerri Davis Shupperd, Pearl, Edgar and Flora Hyatt, David and Tommy Hofstetter, and her lifelong friend Norma Palmer.

Her family and friends will forever carry her memory in their hearts and will always remember the love, strength, and grace she brought into their lives. We will continue to celebrate her life by trying to live with the same poise, confidence, positivity, and kindness that Elizabeth showed each and every day.

Elizabeth will be laid to rest with her family members at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Ave., Walton, New York 13856.
