Obituary

Ella Jeanette Campbell, 87, formerly of Downsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

Ella was born July 17, 1935, on the family farm in Pepacton, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Scudder) Shaver. She was a graduate of Downsville Central School, class of 1954.

Ella married Archibald (Archie) H. Campbell on January 5, 1962 and was married for 37 years until Archie's death on April 12, 1999. Ella was a terrific homemaker for her family while living in Vestal for 15 years before moving to Poughkeepsie where she worked for many years as the head cook for Dutchess BOCES. Ella moved back to Downsville in 1999, where she was a member of the Colchester Community Church, the James S. Moore American Legion Post 167 Auxiliary, and a Delaware County election board member for several years.

Ella loved country music and was the local neighborhood chauffeur for her many friends in the Downsville area who needed a lift to the doctor's office or any other important appointment. She loved her family deeply and always enjoyed family time. She will be greatly missed by all.

Ella is survived by her sons, Alan (Sandra) Shaver of Downsville and John (Sandra) Campbell of Orland Park, IL; brother-in-law, Colin Campbell of Greece, NY; niece, Barbara (Jesus) Leon and her family in Florida; grandchildren, Marcie (Jesse) Gifford of Sidney, Janel Shaver of Wilmington, NC, Joel Shaver of Memphis, TN, Jillian Campbell of Glen Rock, PA, and Sophia Campbell of Baltimore, MD; great grandchildren, Dylan Gifford, Mariah Gifford, and Arianna McDannell. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Archibald H. Campbell; sister, Elsie (Benjamin) Pardee; daughter, Carol Anne Campbell; stepson, Dale Campbell; and nephews, Steven Pardee and Richard Pardee.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 12 to 1PM at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton where a service will be held at 1PM to celebrate Ella's life. Burial will follow in Paige Cemetery, Downsville.
