Elmer J. Clark, 92, a longtime resident of Walton, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown following a long illness.
Elmer was born on October 29, 1921 in Hamden the son of the late Elmer and Mattie (Oliver) Clark. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U. S. Navy. He was a graduate of Delhi Tech, majoring in Construction Technology. He was first married to the former Irma S. Stott. She died on June 26, 1979. On March 20, 1982 he married the former Audrey Shields in Downsville.
Elmer worked for many years for Mealus Furniture in Walton as a floor mechanic, and then in the Walton Post Office as a Clerk on the front window, retiring in 1986. He was an active and loyal member of the United Presbyterian Church, past Trustee, buildings and grounds committee, Truman C. Tobey Post 32 American Legion, VFW Post 270 , Walton Fire Department Company 5, and a former member of the Board of Directors for DVH.
Elmer was a kind and compassionate man who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was an avid reader who enjoyed reading golf magazines, and readers digest. He loved dancing of all sorts. He was an avid golfer, recording three holes-in-one, and shooting 46 on the front nine at Delhi at the age of 91. He also enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, and woodworking. He loved making wooden toys for his children and grandchildren. He also loved riding his motorcycle which he gave up at age 78. He was known as a fixer and collector who always found the way and the materials to fix just about anything.
Elmer is survived by his loving family, his wife, Audrey, his children, John (Linda) Clark of Walton; Linda Clark of Westmoreland; his stepchildren, Debra Pallik of Walton; Diana Pallik of Oneonta; David Pallik of Downsville; his granddaughters, Katrina Pallik of Downsville, Amy (Kevin) Mead of Perkasie, Pa, and Lisa (John) Moffett of Walton; his sister Olive "Petie" Gile of Delhi; his sister and brother in law, Helen and Ray Roach of Delhi; sister-in-law Ruth Clark of Hamden; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, George and Casey Clark and sisters, Eva Budine, Ruth Sweet, Mabel Meyers and Peggy Hebbard.
Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 11AM to 1PM at the United Presbyterian Church, Walton where services will be held at 1 PM with the Rev. Lisa Ruth Mays, officiating. Burial will be in the Hamden Cemetery in the spring with full military honors.
